September 18, 2024, Austin, Texas
Austin’s modern and European contemporary furniture store Copenhagen Imports is relocating to a new address at 4501 W. Braker Ln., off Highway 183 and west of The Domain. The store will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Austin Chamber of Commerce at its new location on the morning of September 27. The official Grand Opening will take place on Saturday, September 28 and Sunday, September 29, with a soft opening starting on Wednesday, September 18, in which customers are welcome to shop at the store and experience the future of Copenhagen.
“I can’t begin to tell you how excited our Austin staff is about our new location,” enthuses Jens Hansen, President and CEO of Copenhagen. “We’ve been in Austin since 1993 and this is, by far, our most impressive store yet. More space, more products, more staff, and a much more convenient location. Our aim is to offer an even more exciting and uplifting furniture shopping experience than ever before.”
Two miles west of its previous location at 2236 W. Braker Ln., Copenhagen Austin’s new, expanded showroom covers over 30,000 square feet of space, with high ceilings and an open floorplan. Curating contemporary furnishings from around the world with an emphasis on high-end, competitively priced European designs, Copenhagen features a layout in which products are displayed in coordinated, home-like vignettes complete with artwork and accessories. “This allows shoppers to get a clearer vision of what the ‘total look’ could be in their personal environment,” Hansen explains.
In celebration, Copenhagen Austin will be running one of its biggest promotions ever from the Grand Opening weekend until Sunday, October 13. Customers will be able to buy one item at full price and get 35% off the second item of equal or lesser value, as well as 10% off any other items in the purchase (some exclusions apply). The first 300 guests at the Grand Opening will also receive a special gift, while supplies last. Champagne and soft drinks will be served on both days, and guests will be able to enter a drawing to win a special recliner and ottoman by Stressless® of Norway.
Founded by Danish immigrants Erik Hansen and Tony Christensen who shared a vision of bringing Scandinavian design to the United States, Copenhagen’s first store opened in Phoenix, Arizona in 1970. Six other stores across Arizona and Texas opened in the following decades, including the showroom in Austin.
“Our Danish heritage gave us a steppingstone into the modern Danish look and new European style we are dedicated to,” states Jens Hansen, son of founder Erik. “We’ve stayed true to this look and style since the beginning, and I believe our core customers find it refreshing that we are exclusively modern and contemporary. Our styles have withstood the test of time, and many items we sold 50 years ago are still relevant today.”
As a family-owned and operated company since its founding, Copenhagen emphasizes a people-centered approach when it comes to customers and the community. “Our caring, knowledgeable sales staff are truly interested in the customer’s needs and wants, seeking to build long-term relationships with them,” Hansen affirms. “Furthermore, we look for ways to give back to the Austin community, which is most recently seen in our ‘5 for 5’ charity events in support of the Austin area food bank.” Over the past three years, Copenhagen’s Spring Charity Food Drives have collectively raised $250,000 for local food banks across Texas and Arizona – including $10,000 this past year for the Central Texas Food Bank of Austin.
