Revered as an artistic and cultural hotspot for millennia, Italy has made a lasting impact on the design world. From the Roman Empire to the Renaissance to the present day, Italy’s legacy of innovative craftsmanship is one of the reasons Copenhagen is proud to carry a variety of Italian manufacturers within our collection.
“When you spend time in our showrooms, you start to get a feel for how distinct Italian design is,” says Will Joffroy, sales associate and interior designer at Copenhagen Tucson. “It’s almost like a genre of music – it has a bold, outgoing energy.”
Maurice Brantley, another sales associate and interior designer at the Tucson showroom, agrees, saying, “Style is something that sets Italians apart. You can recognize it when you see it – for example, how all the seams in a chair match up in the back.” He continues, “When we look at the history in Italy, they’re known for not just furniture, but also architecture and tailoring, and they impart all of that expertise to their furniture as well.”
This meticulous attention to detail, paired with creative passion, results in a dazzling array of furnishings coming out of Italy. If you chose mostly A’s, your match is Egoitaliano.
Founded in 2007, Egoitaliano is based in Matera, Italy, in the heart of the Murgia furniture district. Their style is defined by colorful, often whimsical, sofas and armchairs with unique silhouettes and a wealth of customization options. Egoitaliano also prides themselves on their expert tailoring and eye for trends and innovation.
“I’m an upholstery guy, so I love working with Egoitaliano, because some of the fabrics and the vivid colors and patterns they offer are things that you won’t find anywhere else,” says Maurice Brantley. “Their customization choices are superb, with hundreds of upholstery options.”
For instance, consider the Namy Armchair, outfitted in vibrant multicolored fabric, or the Bonnie Sofa, which sports whimsical tropical-themed upholstery. Brantley also recommends the Honey Glider Chair, featuring a chic retro design, bright turquoise leather, and the ability to rock, swivel, and glide. If you’re seeking a more minimalist look, you may enjoy Egoitaliano’s Sophia Sofa, inspired by Scandinavian vintage style.
If you chose mostly B’s, your match is Incanto.
One of our largest collections, Incanto Italia was founded in 2000 in Italy’s Apulian upholstery district. Uniting aesthetics and functionality with an Italian twist, Incanto’s sofas, sectionals, chairs, and beds offer a bold look with clean lines and comfort as a priority. Their furnishings can integrate well with a variety of design themes, from contemporary to transitional to minimalist, while making a timeless statement.
“Incanto is another one of my favorite Italian manufacturers, because of the upholstery selections that are available for customers,” Brantley explains. Their leather options are particularly noteworthy, ranging from natural aniline leathers to durable protected leathers.
Explore our variety of Incanto pieces, from the simplicity of the Trento Sofa to the ultra-plush cushioning of the Hugo Sofa. Many Incanto items also utilize power motion for an extra layer of comfort, whether in a striking sectional like Mira, or a stylish armchair like Marcella.
If you chose mostly C’s, your match is Cattelan.
Based in Carrè, Italy and founded in 1979, Cattelan Italia is a family-run business whose furnishings are renowned for their dramatic flair and sculptural beauty. From breathtaking ceramic marble to dazzling mirrors, to architectural table bases, Cattelan’s dining, living, and bedroom pieces make a statement like no other.
“Experiencing Cattelan furniture is like going to the Italian opera,” says Will Joffroy. “It’s elegant without being gaudy. Though their price point is higher end, when you look at the quality of their craftsmanship and materials, you realize you’re not just purchasing furniture for utilitarian purposes – you’re building a space that’s a work of art.”
Embrace the grandeur of Italian design with a Cattelan dining table like Atrium, featuring a green ceramic marble top and quilted glass base, or a sideboard like Focus, with a Crystalart front that evokes the movement of water. Even a shelf like Spinnaker or a dining chair like Miranda radiate unique artistry in their design.
If you chose mostly D’s, your match is ALF.
Another family-run company, ALF was founded in 1951 in Francenigo, Italy. ALF’s distinguishing trademark is their coordinated furniture sets for the bedroom, dining room, and office. Each line they produce shows a masterful combination of materials, finishes, and textures that create impeccable stylistic harmony.
“ALF is particularly focused on case goods, producing excellent dressers, sideboards, curio cabinets, and more,” says Brantley. “Though they don’t offer custom order options, they have so many different lines that the choices are great.”
For instance, you may love a luxurious, multitextured line like Bella Ruggente, featuring channeled walnut veneer, gold lacquer, and eco-stone – or a light and airy collection like Bella Vita, in white high-gloss wood. For those with more minimalist preferences, ALF also offers lines like Bella Luna in matte black pine.
Finally, if you were tied between multiple choices, feel free to explore pieces within each collection, or mix and match to find your own vibe!
Other notable Italian brands in our collection include:
Composad: Sustainable, versatile office furniture in 100% recycled wood with a durable melamine finish
Mobilgam: Sideboards and media units with bold shapes and striking finishes
MIDJ: Dining chairs and tables with a playful and artistic vibe
Naos: One-of-a-kind tables with innovatively engineered expandable tops
Quadrifoglio: Forward-thinking office chairs with stylish ergonomics
Indeed, one of the most engaging aspects of Italian design is its near-endless creativity and variety. Joffroy says, “I love how unapologetic Italian design can be. You can go for a more conservative style with it if you’d like, but many Italian manufacturers give you the option to go as wild as you want with color or material. I think this speaks to the Italian mindset – it can be reserved, but it can also be very celebratory.”
